Kingshot Beginner Guide: Your First 30 Days
Published 2026-09-2212 min read
A complete Kingshot beginner guide: rush Town Center 30, the buildings and research that actually matter, how to spend gems on the Hero Roulette and VIP, and how to become a rally joiner your alliance wants.

Kingshot is a medieval city-builder wrapped around a strategy war game. You are a governor rebuilding a shattered kingdom: you grow a town, train troops, research an academy tree, recruit heroes, and then throw all of it into alliance wars. The first month decides whether your account snowballs or stalls, because almost every system in the game is gated behind your Town Center level.
This guide covers what to do in your first 30 days, in the order you should do it.
The core loop in one paragraph
Upgrade buildings → unlock stronger troops → help your alliance win rallies and events → collect rewards and resources → upgrade more buildings. Almost everything else — heroes, gear, pets, research — exists to accelerate that loop. If a decision does not speed up your Town Center or make you more useful in alliance combat, it can wait.
Rule one: rush your Town Center
Your single most important goal is Town Center level 30. Two things unlock there:
- T10 troops, the strongest base-stat troops you can train for a long time. Stronger troops help you in every rally you join.
- Truegold, earned from Intel Missions once you hit TC30. Truegold becomes one of the hardest bottlenecks in the mid-game, so the earlier you start collecting it, the better.
So the plan is simple: keep your construction queue busy, always be upgrading the Town Center or the buildings required to unlock it, and never leave the queue idle.
If you spend at all, the permanent second construction queue is the best value in the game. Do not buy the temporary queue with gems — those gems belong to your heroes or your VIP level.
Buildings: what to upgrade and what to ignore
| Priority | Buildings | Why |
|---|---|---|
| High | Town Center, Training Camps, Command Center, Academy | Directly gate troop tiers, march slots and research |
| Medium | Clinic, Kitchen, Houses | Cap at level 10, quick, keep residents happy, Houses produce free gold |
| Ignore | Sawmill, Mill, Quarry, Iron Mine and other pure resource buildings | Long upgrades, poor return — gather resources with marches instead |
The trap most new players fall into is "finishing" their town: upgrading every resource building to a tidy level before touching the Town Center. That is backwards. Resource buildings produce very little compared with gathering, and every hour spent there is an hour your Town Center is not advancing.

Research: spend your Academy time where it pays
Academy research takes years of base time across the whole tree, so you are always choosing. The priorities split by the role you play.
If you are free-to-play or a light spender (a joiner)
You will not lead rallies, so troop-stat research is mostly wasted on you. Your research is about account growth and capacity:
- Command Tactics — the highest-priority research in the whole Academy. It grants three extra march queues, which is enormous for daily growth. You can usually finish it around Town Center 18.
- Trainer Tools — faster troop training, so you grow an army quicker and score better in events while spending fewer speedups.
- Tooling Up (to around Tier 6) and Tool Enhancement (to around Tier 5) — construction and research speed. Past those levels the cost climbs faster than the benefit.
- Economy tree: take the gathering researches and skip resource production. Production buildings simply do not output enough to matter.
- Battle tree: take Regimental Expansion and ignore the rest early. It raises the number of troops you can send, which means more contribution to alliance rallies and more Bear Trap damage.
Skip Camp Expansion (more troops trained at once, but no speed), Ward Expansion (you are not the one taking losses), and Bandaging.
Once the essentials are done, extend into battle research in this order: Infantry Health → Archer Lethality → Cavalry Lethality → Infantry Defense → Cavalry Defense → Archer Defense. Where you can, prefer the researches that boost all troop types — Survival Techniques, Assault Techniques, Weapons Prep and Special Defensive Training.
If you are a spender (a rally leader)
Your troop stats apply to every rally you lead, so the Battle tree becomes genuinely important. Push combat research hard, but keep Command Tactics first — the extra march queues help everyone.
Heroes: the Hero Roulette and the VIP decision
Heroes are where gems go, and you cannot fund everything. As free-to-play, you must choose a lane: Hero Roulette or VIP level.

The Hero Roulette
The Hero Roulette opens on the second day of the Hall of Governors event and is the best gem-to-power conversion in the game. It rotates through archer, infantry and cavalry heroes by generation, so over time it is how you build a full main march.
Spins cost 1,500 gems each, and the rewards are milestone-based. Chase the milestones rather than spinning randomly:
| Spins | Shards per spin |
|---|---|
| 5 | 1.54 |
| 15 | 1.65 |
| 35 | 1.69 |
| 70 | 1.63 |
| 120 | 1.67 |
35 spins is the best-value stop; if you are short on gems, 15 is the practical minimum. Save deliberately for the hero you want rather than spraying spins across generations. Saul arrives in Generation 1, Zoe in Generation 2, and Petra in Generation 3 — Petra is worth real planning, since she is the first cavalry hero with an attack widget.
VIP
VIP levels give long-term quality of life: extra march queues, construction speed, and free General Mythic Shards every day at higher levels (VIP 9 in particular).
- For free-to-play, use gems on Hero Roulette and activating VIP only — never buy VIP XP outright.
- Start activating VIP at VIP 4, because that unlocks a 10% construction speed boost. Activation costs 10,000 gems per month.
- You climb VIP slowly from daily logins (up to 500 free VIP XP a day) and the Alliance Store. Roughly two months gets a consistent player to VIP 6.
Many alliances would argue the strongest early path is to skip the Roulette until Generation 3, park gems into VIP 8–9 for the daily Mythic shards, then commit everything to Petra. Either lane works — what fails is splitting your gems between both.
Troops, formations and the joiner role
Kingshot has three troop types — Infantry, Archer, Cavalry — and each counter matters in marches and rallies. As a joiner, your troop quality still counts: you contribute your troops and your first-slot hero's first expedition skill to the leader's rally, so the jump from T9 to T10 troops is a real upgrade for your alliance, not just for you.
The four stats that decide combat are Attack, Lethality, Defense and Health. Lethality and Attack are what you want for offensive events; Health and Defense matter when you are the one being hit.
If you are joining rallies rather than leading them, focus on four things:
- Get to Town Center 30 so you can field T10 troops.
- Build the joiner hero core — Chenko, Amane, Gordon and Yeonwoo — to 4 stars, with their first expedition skill at level 5.
- Take Regimental Expansion so you can send more troops per rally.
- Keep three gear sets — one Infantry, one Archer, one Cavalry — on your three main heroes, instead of spreading gear across everyone.
Events: where the rewards actually come from
Events are the engine of your account. The ones to know early:
- Bear Hunt / Bear Trap — the alliance-wide damage event. Bring joiners who boost Attack and Lethality; Health and Defense buffs are wasted because the bear deals no damage.
- Desert Trial and Champions Way — reliable gem sources. Do at least 10 rallies to hit the main reward tier, then keep hunting beasts for Pouches and Clawshards.
- Swordland Showdown, Tri Alliance Clash, Alliance Championship, KvK and Strongest Governor — alliance PvP events where a strong joiner is worth more than a mediocre leader.
- Hall of Governors — the event whose second day opens the Hero Roulette.
- Castle Battle — where the batch troop healing trick pays off; heal in bulk instead of one unit at a time and get back into the fight faster.
Two habits turn events from a chore into income: reach the gem milestone in every event you enter, then bank the leftover speedups, forge materials and hero shards for the next one, and send all your marches to gather before you log off, except one — keep that last march free so auto-join can always answer a rally.
Gold: the quiet bottleneck
Research in the Academy eats gold, and early on gold is scarce. The fixes, in order of impact:
- Raise your Conquest level. Passive gold income scales with it, and after level 200 you start earning Hero Gear as well.
- Max your Houses. They are the second-biggest idle gold source and cap at level 10, reachable once the Town Center hits 10.
- Fight Rebel Assaults. A few hundred gold each, several times a day.
- Run Conquest Battles in the Watchtower. Individually small, but a few thousand gold a day across a handful of battles.
Your first 30 days: the checklist
Days 1–3
- Complete the tutorial and join the most active alliance you can — everything in this game is alliance-shaped.
- Start the construction queue and never let it idle.
- Claim your gift codes and bank the speedups.
- Set your first march to gather, and keep gathering permanently.
Days 4–10
- Push the Town Center and its required buildings.
- Start Command Tactics in the Academy immediately.
- Claim Jabel from the 7-day sign-in reward and put her on garrison duty.
- Begin the joiner heroes: Chenko, Amane, Gordon, Yeonwoo.
Days 11–30
- Keep the second build queue working if you have it.
- Hit the Hero Roulette milestones for the current generation hero.
- Take Regimental Expansion, then move into troop-stat research.
- Enter every alliance event you can, even at a low contribution — the milestone rewards are the point.
- Reach for Town Center 30 so Truegold and T10 troops come online.
Five mistakes to avoid
- Upgrading resource buildings "to be safe." Gathering is better; those upgrades are a tax.
- Splitting gems between VIP and the Roulette. Pick a lane and commit.
- Leading rallies with a joiner account. You will lose them. Join, contribute, and grow.
- Spreading hero gear thin. Three sets, three heroes.
- Sitting on codes and event items. Codes expire; event items are worth more when you already have the milestone in hand.
Once you have the fundamentals down, pick your investments from the Kingshot hero tier list — the role-based lists tell you exactly which heroes belong on your account, and the gift codes page keeps the free bundles current.
